How to cope with Swollen Feet

Swollen Feet
Do your feet look like this?

Here are some useful suggestions for people who regularly suffer from swollen feet:

  • If you have not consulted your doctor - see your doctor as soon as possible
  • Take medication as directed by your doctor
  • Wear support stockings
  • Wear suitable shoes
  • Eat a sensible diet - moderate your salt intake, try to carefully lose any excess weight
  • Elevate your legs above your heart for a few hours during the day (lie down to do this)
  • Some people find it useful to use wedges in their bed to elevate their feet at night
  • Drink plenty of water (within normal amounts)
  • Exercise regularly within your normal capabilities. Too little exercise is bad for your health and too much will make your feet worse. You need to find the right balance.
  • Avoid standing still for long periods
  • Avoid sitting still for long periods
  • If your feet are hot, cool them by soaking your feet for 10-15 minutes in cool water
